Hand and wrist 1 Flashcards
Image of the 28 bones of the hand and wrist
see image
Name the 8 carpal bones on the palmar view
1, scaphoid, 2. lunate, 3. triquetrum, 4. trapezium, 5. trapezoid, 6. capitate, 7 hamate, 8. pisiform
Name the 7 carpal bones on the Dorsal view (which one is missing)
see image
What is the rhyme to remember the 8 carpal bones?

What are the radio-carpel joint borders?
see pic
Name the compartments of the wrist and tendons
see pic
compartment 4 what tendons and what do they do?
see pic-Ext inicis involves the extension of the index finger at the MCP and interphalangeal joint. One of the few fingers able to extend independently from the other fingers. Ext digitorum communis inserts into the extensor expansion of the medial four digits
What sturcture divides compartment 2 from comparment 3
Listers tubercle (at the distal radius)
What is All Peanut Lover Eat Peanut Butter
see pic-lateral to medial
T/F: APL can have a dissection/bifurcating bi-tendinous and is common.
True-see pic
What is Wartenberg’s syndrome?
Pain and paresthesia on posterior thumb from lateral cutaneous nerve
ECR-origin, insertion action, nerve, dyynamic testing
see pic
What is an oarsmens wrist
Intersetion/crossover syndrom at proximal to distal between comptment 1 (EPB, APL and 2 (ECRB, ECRL). It is an overuse tenosynovitis proximal to the extensor (see image) retinaculum.. Where deQuervains occurs
What is the normal angle for a scapho-lunate ligament?
30-60 deg or > 3 mm
FPL for finding median nerve? And what are the borders of the carpel tunnel
see pic
Name entry (proximal) to the carpal tunnel and ext (distal)
entry: scaphoid and pisiform, Exit: hook of hamate and trapezium
Carpal tunnel occupants: what is not in the carpel tunnel? Can I name the 9 tendons and one nerve?
FCR not in tunnel. FDS-4, FD{-4. F{:-1 and median nerve
Wrist to Forearm ratio
Trace median nerve from distal image 12 cm or 4.7 inches. The MN is seen between the FDS and FDP. Ratio is division of proximal divided by distal. > 1.4 postivitive for CTS.
What none does the median nerve pass over?
Lunate
Where is the ulnar nerve in Guyons canal?
adjacent to the ulnar artery and superficial to the flexor retinaculum
Image 1 of Guyons canal
see pic
What 2 branches does the ulnar Nerve divide?
2 terminal brances: proper digital nerve (montor) and cutaneous brance (sensory)
Image of ulnar nerve branches
see pic
Transverse carpal ligament: located where and what is the average thickness
see pic
Image of the dorsal metacarpal-phalangeal longitudinal
Anatomic neck serves as the attachment for the synovial membrane
What is a Trigger finger?
tendons must slide under the pullys for proper motion. Problem is hard to slide with trigger finger. You will not see annular ligament unless inflammed/damaged (red ighlight) LAX view is not the most optimal PP=proxomal phalinx
Climbers finger
The A2 Pulley. Two tendons, fds and fdp
What may be found under the fingertip?
glomus cyst, tumor lesion
Image of fingertip lesions with US
the images are under the fingernail
Image of ulnar side/thenar, adductor and UCL
pic
What is gamekeeper or skiers thumb
hyperabduction injury, sprain of the UCL (partial or full)
What is a Stener lesion
Includes UCL tear plus aponeurosis detachment from 1st MP joing
