Hand Flashcards
What is a boutonierre deformity?
PIP flexion with DIP extension. Due to Central slip rupture with attenuation of triangular ligament and volar subluxation of lateral bands.
The juncturae tendinum may mask what injury?
Proximal extensor tendon lacerations
What is the cortical ring sign of the scaphoid?
Seen in DISI. Means the scaphoid is flexed and you are seeing the volar tubercle on AP view.
Which are the strongest fibers of the scapholunate ligament?
Dorsal fibers stronger
Which are the strongest components of the lunotriquetral ligament?
Volar
What view might help better appreciate ring and small finger cmc fx/dislocation?
Pronated 30 degree oblique radiograph
What is a “baby” or “reverse” Bennett fx? Deforming force?
It is a small finger CMC fx/dislocation. Deforming force is ECU.
How much angulation can be tolerated in thumb metacarpal fx?
Up to 30 degrees due to CMC compensatory joint motion
What is a Bennett fracture?
An intra-articular fracture dislocation of base of thumb CMC joint.
In a Bennet fx, what keeps the volar ulnar fragment reduced to trapezium?
The anterior oblique or “beak” ligament. Primary stabilizing restraint to subluxation of CMC joint
