Q

What are the themes in Hamlet? Give an example for 3.

A

Appearance vs. Reality; Hamlet is seen as “mad” throughout the play where as in reality, he is just putting on an act to get closer to killing Claudius.
Morality; What is right and what is wrong? Is killing for revenge right? Is suicide okay to do when there is nothing left to live for? Hamlet continually asks himself these questions to figure out what is morally correct.
Revenge; The main plot revolves around Hamlet taking revenge on Claudius and whether this will satisfy Hamlet to live on. Laertes wants revenge on Hamlet for Polonius’ death and Fortinbras wants revenge for his father on Denmark.
