note: the importance of beginning the play with “who” rather than something like “what”, sets the intention of the play.

This is said to Claudius.
“dread” meaning respected, feared.
HAMLET first line:
“A little more than kin, and less than kind.”
Said to Claudius, note “kind” meaning natural.
The “____ still hang” on Hamlet
“clouds”. His mother and Claudius, are urging him to stop lamenting his father’s death.
In Hamlet’s first key speech, “not alone”, the speech starts with “seems”.

RHETORICAL DEVICE: Syndeton.
“not alone” and the subsequent lost of four parallel items with “nor”.
