Haloalkanes and arenes Flashcards
What are the ortho para groups?
Cl,Br,I,CH3,CH3CH2,OCH3,OH,NH2,N,NH
Ortho para groups are also called ?
Electron directing group
What are the meta directing groups?
NO2,CN,COR,COOH,COOR,CO,CHO
Meta directing groups are also called ?
Electron withdrawing group.
What are the categories of classification of haloalkanes and haloarenes?
Based on no of halogen atoms. Based on hybridization of C.
Based on position of halogen atoms.
What are the hybridization based classifications?
Alkyl halides - carbon chain attached.
Allylic halide - X attached to C attached to sp2 double bonded C( not aromatic).
Benzylic halide - X attached to R attached to benzene ring.
Vinylic halide - X is Directly linked to sp2 double bonded C.
Arryl halide - X is directly attached to aromatic ring.
What are geminal and vicinal halides?
Geminal ( ylidene) - double X on same C.
Vicinal ( ylene) -Double halogen on adjacent carbon.
Types of isomerism in haloalkanes?
Chain , position , geometrical and optical.
Types of geometrical isomerism?
Cis - same type same side.
Trans - same type opposite sides.
Types of optical isomerism?
Chiral or disymmetric and achiral or symmetric .
Order of increase of size of c - x bond?
C- Fl to C-I
Principle followed when haloalkanes are formed from alcohol?
Le chateliers principle.
Dehydrating agent for preparation of haloalkanes from mixture of alcohol and hcl?
Anhydrous ZnCl2
