Halide Ions Flashcards
1
Q
Names and ionic formulas of halide ions
A
Chloride Cl^-
Bromide Br^-
Iodide I^-
2
Q
Test for halide ions
A
Add silver nitrate and a few drops of dilute nitric acid
3
Q
Why isn’t hydrochloric acid used?
A
Because chloride ions are present in hydrochloric acid which means that the test would always be positive (which is invalid)
4
Q
Results of the test for halide ions
A
A precipitate forms:
Chloride White
Bromide Cream
Iodide Yellow
