a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.
List some Mental Illness
Eating disorders: anorexia/ bulimia, Psychotic disorders: schizophrenia Personality disorder: anxiety, depression, PTSD
Describe possible causes of Mental Illness. (cause and effect)

Biological factors such as chemical imbalances in the brain.

What causes mental stress for Young People?
Stress in school, relationship issues, life changes (moving houses), fear of future, abuse, society
Explain what depression is
The constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stops you from doing your normal activities.
Different types of depression with different symptoms (minor to severe).
Identify what some signs of depression might be?
Change in behaviour: never goes out, stays in bed, unable to concentrate, drinking alcohol
Feeling: overwhelmed, rush of sadness, lacking confidence, frustrated
Physical: Sleep problems, headaches/ muscle aches, loss or change in appetite
Explain what anxiety is
a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.
Identify some signs and symptoms of Anxiety
feeling nervous or tense, sense of danger and panic, loneliness, feeling weak or tired, trouble concentrating
Name some Eating Disorders
Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, pica (eating ice, dirt etc...), rumination disorder (gags it out), restrictive food intake disorder
Identify signs a friend might be suffering from an Eating Disorder
avoiding food and eating, extreme dieting rules, tiredness or lack of energy, checking calorie count on foods/ calorie counting exercising excessively
Describe reasons why some young people suffer from Eating disorders.

Resilience is a protective factor against psychological distress in adverse situations involving loss or trauma.
It can help in the management of stress levels and depressive symptoms.
Psychological resilience refers to the mental fortitude to handle challenges and adversity.
