Mass graves of 7,000 were commissioned. The remaining bodies were made into roadblocks protesting against the long time it took for aid to arrive.

What was the death rate and what caused it to be so high

A

High this was due to a number of factors: 72.1% of the population lived on less then $2 a day; the people lived in packed shanty towns in poorly constructd buildings; builders didn’t follow safety instructions and were given bribes to take short cuts; the quake hit close to said areas. Almost every house in the country well down.

A

the infrastructure of Port Au Prince was completely ruined. Roads were impassable and the county’s tiny airport was full of aid planes while to port was full of rubbish.
