Dominican republic was the first to send water, food and heavy lifting machinery to help rescue people
Iceland had an emergency responses team in the country within 24hrs
1500 camps were set up across the capital

What were the long term responses
Homes had to comply with building codes and had to be constructed in a hazard resilient way
The world bank funded supplementary food for 200,000 children aged 6-23 months
The world bank funded schools for 140,000 children within camps
New water supply systems were set in 6 rural locations to encourage people to stay in the countryside
Began to draw up a disaster plan which includes food stockpiles and boiled water. There to be more coordination and working with the military in order to clear roads to access areas to receive aid
