  • 1 in 5 people lost their jobs because so many buildings were destroyed
  • Due to so many deaths, hospitals and morges were full so bodies were piled up on the street. This lead to increased spread of disease
  • Looting and sexual violence increased
  • Airports and roads destroyed so difficulty getting aid
