What is the hair cuticle?
The out side of the hair strand. It’s similar texture to fish scales.
What is the cortex?
The second layer of the hair shaft. What gives the hair most of its pigment and elasticity.
What is the medulla?
The core of the hair shaft.
What do sebaceous glands do?
Send up oil though the hair shaft to the skin to prevent dryness.
What is the acid mantel?
When sebum from the sebaceous glands, and the body’s perspiration, which protects the cuticle.
What happens during the anagen/active-growth-stage?
Each hair bulb attracts to the root sheath. Can last from two to six years.
What happens during the catagen stage?
When cell division stops. Lasts only a few weeks.
What happens during the telogen/resting-stage?
When the bulb is no longer attached to the root. Lasts about three to four months.
What is the order of the hair growth stages?
Anagen, catagen, and telogen
What color is Eumelanin?
Brown/black
What color is Phenomelanin?
Red/yellow
What is hair porosity?
The ability to absorb moisture.
What is hair elasticity?
The hairs ability to stretch and go back into place.
What is lanugo?
Super fine baby hair what she’d after birth.
What is effleurage?
Curricular shaped movement starting at the top of the head down to the back.
