hair Flashcards
hair shaft
superficial projects above skin surface
hair root
portion of hair deep to the shaft that penetrates into dermis. its what contains inner layers mcc
medulla
the innermost/ thinnest layer of the hair root
cortex
the outer layer of medulla. second innermost
cuticle
very thin 3rd innermost
hair follicle
composed of external and internal root sheath. surround hair root. between hair bulb and hair root
internal root sheath
third outer layer
external root sheath
continuation of epidermis. layer before the dermal root sheath/ last layer
glassy membrane
clear connective tissue separating outer root sheath from connective tissue
bulb of hair
base of hair follicle, round onion shaped
papillla of the hair
contains areolar ct, nipple shaped and base of hair bulb
matrix of hair
stratum basale covering of papilla of the hair
arrector pili muscle
extends from dermis to to dermal root sheath around side of hair follicle looks like long muscle coming out of side of hair follicle
meissners corpuscle (corpuscle of touch)
at top in papillary region bellow epidermis, small
lamellted (pacinian) corpuscle
in hypodermis, respond to vibrations/ sensitive to touch
hair root plexus
dendrites of neurons that wrap around hair follicle, sensitive to touch and generate nerve impulses if hair shaft is touched
free nerve endings
dendrites in dermal papillae (in papillary region below epidermis/ stratum granuloso)
sebaceous oil gland
connected to hair follicle secret sebum (oily substance)
sudoriferous sweat gland
release sweat into hair follicle or onto skin through pores divided to eccrine or apocrine
eccrine sweat gland
coiled tubular glands in forehead, palms, soles. pore projects onto surface of epidermis
apocrine sweat gland
coiled tubular glands with larger ducts found in axilla, groin, breast. located in more lower dermis.
ceruminous gland
produce waxy secretion in external ear
