Q
What is the D value?
A
- time taken to reduce the microbial population by 10-fold i.e. 90%
1
Q
What is the Spaulding classification?
A
- the classification that determines what sterility assurances are required e.g. Critical suggests sterility assurance of 10^-6, 1 in a million chance of microbial contamination
- the other classes are semi critical (e.g. endoscopes) and non critical (e.g. BP cuff)
2
Q
T/F high bio burden results in higher errors
A
True, errors occur when there is an unexpected bio burden
- by reducing the bio burden the process can be shorter and more efficient
3
Q
What factors affect ability to kill organisms quickly?
A
- the D value (time taken for 10-fold reduction)
- the sterility assurance (prob that item is sterile)
- bioburden
