What are haemorroids?
A
Vascular rich connective tissue cushions in anal canal.
Can be internal (above dentate) or external (below dentate)

What are external haemorrhoids?
A
Located in distal anal canal and are convered by sensate anoderm or skin

What are internal haemorrhoids?
A
Covered by insensate transitional epithelium
1-4, depending on how much they protrude and if they are reducible

What are risk factors for haemorrhoids?
A
age 45-65 constipation and straining pregnancy SOL in pelvis low fibre diet

What are Sx of haemorrhoids
A
Rectal bleeding perianal pain or discomfort itch mucus discharge palpable lesion

What Ix in haemorrhoids?
A
DRE
proctoscopy: look at them, conclusive diagnostic test
can do colonoscopy to rule out cancer

What is Rx of haemorrhoids
A
Fybogel, steroids, rubber band ligation, infrared photocoagulation
Surgery if severe
