Haemolysis And Plasmolysis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Haemolysis?
A
It is a situation where RBCs swell and burst when placed in a hypotonic solution
2
Q
What is Plasmolysis?
A
It is the situation where living cells lose water when placed in a hypertonic solution, leading to shrinking. In higher plants it leads to wilting.
3
Q
Give 3 differences between Haemolysis and Plasmolysis
A
¶ While cells shrink in Plasmolysis, they burst in Haemolysis(RBCs)
¶ While Plasmolysis occurs in plant cells, Haemolysis occurs in RBCs.
¶ Plasmolysis occurs in hypertonic solution, Haemolysis occurs in hypotonic solution.
