Haematolgy 2 Flashcards
Multiple Myeloma
plasma cell proliferation
B-lymphocyte > mature plasma cells
diagnostic criteria for MM?
major :
plasmacytoma
30% plasma cells in bone marrow sample
elevated levels of M protein in blood / urine
Minor:
10% - 30% plasma cells in bone marrow sample
osteolytic lesions on XR
low levls fo antibodies in blood
1st line imaging in MM?
whole body MRI
mx of tumour lysis syndrome?
IV fluids
IV rasburicase
>manages uric acid levels
most likely cause of burkitts?
viral : EBV
autoimmune haemolytic anaemia + DAT
mx?
corticosteroids to reduce circulating antibodies
= reduces haemolysis
IgA deficiency can lead to a common blood transfusion reaction?
anaphylactic reaction due to low igA = high anti-IgA abs
parovirus in sickle cell
drop in haemoglobin but also markedly low reticulocyte count
> aplastic crisis
anaemia of chronic disease
reduced iron release from marrow
inadequate EPO
reduced red cell
hereditary haemochromatosis?
raised ferrit, low tibc
iron levels abnormal
before starting rituximab what should be screened?
hepatitis B
Cd20 monoclonal antibody
used in Mx diffuse large cell lymphoma
myelofibrosis blood film?
tear drop poikolcytes
