Haber Process Flashcards
What is the haber process
It’s used to make ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen
What are the industrial conditions for the haber process
High pressure of 200 atmospheres
High temperature of 450 degrees
The reactant gases are passed over an iron catalyst
What is the ammonia produced used as
Used to make ammonium nitrate which is a very nitrogen rich fertiliser
What does it mean by the forward reaction of the haber process being exothermic
The increasing temp will move the equilibrium the wrong way so away from ammonia and to motiven and hydrogen this means the yield of ammonia will be greater at lower temps but lower temps means slower rates of reactions
What are the 3 essential elements in fertilisers
Nitrogen
Phosphorus
Potassium
