H205 WEQ Flashcards
Define Work Done
Work done by a force is the product of the force and the displacement in the direction of the force.
What are the two formulas for work done?
W = Fs / W = Fs cos x
What is the area under a force-displacement graph?
Work done by the varying force if the force and displacement are in the same direction.
Formula of work done by gas
W = p (V final - V initial) / W = p (change in volume)
Define translational kinetic energy
Energy possessed by a mass due to its translational speed.
Formulae of translational kinetic energy
E = 1/2 mv^2
Define gravitational potential energy
Energy of a mass due to its position in a gravitational field
Formula of gravitational potential energy
E = mgh
Formula of gravitational potential energy
E = mgh
Define elastic potential energy
The ability to do work by an object when it is deformed (ie. stretched or compressed)
Formula of elastic potential energy
E = 1/2 kx^2
Define the Principle of Conservation of Energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be converted from one form to another.

Define power
Power is work done per unit time
