Q

Describe the following finishes
Ciré
b) Napping
c) Lustering
d) Embossing
e) Water-Repellent
f) Waterproo

A

Ciré-A super glossy finish created by
applying wax
b) Napping-Fabric is made to look old and
worn through bleach, dye,
friction and ripping
c) Lustering-▪ Heat and pressure are applied
to add lustre (shine)
d) Embossing- Fabrics are given a raised design
on their surface. Various
techniques are used to raise the
fabric
e) Water-Repellent-▪ Resists water, but will eventually
become wet
f) Waterproof- Has been coated so no water will
penetrate

18
Q

What are three eco-friendly fabrics

A

Organic cotton, hemp, eco fleece

19
Q

Why are each of these fabrics considered eco-friendly?

A

Organic cotton
▪ Grown without the use of chemical inputs.
▪ People and environment are less exposed to chemicals.
Hemp
▪ Biodegradable at the end of its life.
▪ The hemp plant does not require a lot of water.
▪ It actually replenishes the soil it grows in rather than extracting its nutrient
Eco fleece
▪ Though fleece is made from polyester, a petroleum by-product, many
companies are now making fleece from used plastic bottles.
