When visiting sites what steps would you take before leaving?
I would ensure that I check is PPE is required and would make sure that I wear the appropriate clothing at all times. I would make sure my colleagues know where I am going and make a note of it in calander.
What is the legislation relating to Health & Safety in the UK
The health & safety at work Act 1974.
This is adjudicated by the Health & Safety Executive (HSH). Non-compliance is a criminal offence that is punishable by fines and/or imprisonment.
When it is necessary for a risk assessment to be carried out?
It is a legal requirement for organizations employing more than 5 staff to carry out documented health and safety risk assessments of all their significant hazards.
Who is responsible for your health and safety at work?
I am responsible for my own health and safety but so is my employer as per the Health and Safety Act 1974
What might an employer issue for a task that puts an employer at risk?
A method statement. Set out a detailed way that the task should be completed.
Where might you find asbestos in a building?
Asbestos can be found in a variety of places including the insulation of building, ceilings, in fireplaces, floor tiles, boiler insulation and in roofs.
What types of asbestos surveys are there?
Management Survey
- locate, assess and advise on the management during occupation and use.
- No sampling of materials or analysis is undertaken.
Refurbishment/Demolition Survey
- Required when a premises is being refurbished or demolished.
- Samples of asbestos containing materials are taken and analysed.
- Recommendations are made regarding their management.
What do The Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012) say are the five steps for the duty holder in managing asbestos?
- Assess whether premises contains asbestos
- Assess the risk of it
- Create an asbestos register
- Make the register available
- Review the register regularly
What are the maximum penalty offenses relating to asbestos?
Under the Health and Safety Act 2008, a surveyor dealing with asbestos can be fined a maximum of £20,000 and a potential 12-month prison sentence.

What is the safe person concept?
RICS considers the concept of a ‘safe person’ to mean that each individual assumes individual behavioral responsibilities for their own, their colleagues and others health and safety while at work
Reporting injuries
- The trigger date for reporting injuries is over 7 days incapacitation.
- Injury must be reported to HSE within 15 days from date of accident.
- Employees must keep a record of all 3-day plus injuries.
- Information can be kept in an accident book which must be kept for a minimum of 3 years.
