Migrant
A person who moves from place to place to find work, often seasonally
Prejudice
An unfair and negative opinion or judgment about a person or group based on their race, gender, disability, or background
Disability
A physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities
Companion
A person with whom one spends time or travels, often a close friend
Aspiration
A hope or ambition of achieving something great
Vulnerable
Easily hurt, harmed, or unable to defend oneself
Isolation
The state of being alone or separated from others
Discrimination
Unfair treatment of a person or group based on prejudice
Dignity
The state of being worthy of honor or respect
Empathy
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another
Survival
The state of continuing to live or exist, especially in difficult conditions
Marginalized
Treated as insignificant or peripheral, pushed to the edges of society
Resilience
The ability to recover quickly from difficulties
Compassion
Sympathetic concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others
Laborers
People who do physical work for wages, typically in agriculture, construction, or manufacturing
Fulfillment
The satisfaction or happiness that comes from achieving one’s desires
Burden
A heavy load or responsibility that is difficult to carry
Mercy
Compassionate treatment, especially of someone who could be treated harshly
Ambition
A strong desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work
Desperation
A state of despair, typically one that results in rash or extreme behavior
Intersectionality
The idea that a person’s different identities and experiences, like race and disability, interact and create unique challenges
Societal constraints
Limits or rules placed on people by the society they live in
Systemic inequality
Unfair differences in power, status, and opportunity built into the major institutions and systems of a society
Alienation
Feeling isolated, disconnected, or separated from others and society
Determinism
The idea that all events, including human choices and actions, are determined by factors outside our control
Characterization
The way an author develops and describes the personalities and identities of the characters in a story
Compassionate intervention
Caring, sympathetic actions taken to help someone in need or to prevent further harm
