Physical Map
A physical map is one which shows the physical features of a place or country, like rivers, mountains, forests and lakes.
Political Map
A political map shows the state and national boundaries of a place
Continent
A continent is a large solid area of land. Earth has seven continents. In order from largest to smallest, they are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
Nation State
The nation state is a system of organization defined by geography, politics, and culture. The nation is cultural identity that is shared by the people, and the state is the governing administration. A nation state must have a shared national identity, physical borders, and a single government.
Port
a town or city with a harbor where ships load or unload cargo
Bay
A bay is a coastal body of water connected to a larger body of water, such as a sea or lake. Bays are usually semicircular or nearly circular in shape.
Oasis
An oasis is any area in a desert that has a supply of freshwater and where plants can therefore grow.
Canal
an artificial waterway for boats or for irrigation of land.
Peninsula
A body of land surrounded by water on three sides
Gulf
a part of an ocean or sea that extends into the land
Landlocked
to be shut in or nearly shut in by land a landlocked harbor.
Strait
a narrow waterway between two pieces of land that connects two large bodies of water. A strait is similar to a canal cutting through an isthmus (a narrow strip of land), but a strait is formed naturally and canals are built by people.
Mountain
a landform that rises high above the surrounding terrain in a limited area
Irrigation
the artificial supply of water to agricultural land.
Dam
a barrier that blocks flowing water or sends it in a new direction
