Cervical screning - results interpretation

  1. Negative hrHPV
  2. Positive hrHPV
  3. inadequate

  1. return to normal recall
  2. is cytology abnormal-> colposcopy; if cytology normal but +ve, repeat at 12 months; if repeat now -ve, normal recall; if repeat still +ve and cytolgy normal - repeat 12 months later; if -ve at 24 mths - normal recall; if +ve at 24 months - colposcopy
  3. repeat sample in 3 months; if 2 consecutive inadequate samples then colposcopy

normal recall - 12 months

Large loop excision of transformation zone (LLETZ) is the most common treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. LLETZ may sometimes be done during the initial colposcopy visit or at a later date depending on the individual clinic. Alternative techniques include cryotherapy.
