Q

Where should you not do a custom call-in?

A

To enhance the call-in effect on group members, holding the call in at a non threatening place of civic importance may be better. While call-ins have been held in courtrooms, that setting might send an overly harsh message to group members. Holding it a a civic place shows that the members are part of the community and are citizens. Hold it at a welcoming place. P. 63“Courtroom”

Q

What are the benefits of customs?

A

They can be delivered to a small group of impact players who are not under court supervision and cannot be mandated to attend a call-in.

a. They can be delivered to anybody regardless of whether that person is on probation, in particular they can be delivered to the small number of impact players who forte on are not under court supervision and cannot be mandated to attend a call-in, they are extremely flexible and can be implemented in short notice, they can be delivered by LE alone, community figures alone, or a combination, they can incorporate influentials, they can incorporate highly specific information meaningful to the person being notified, they are powerful tools for interrupting group beefs, heading off retaliation, calming down outbreaks, and bolstering the core of GVI operations. Will reach more than the person notified. P. 3 and 4.

Q

What dont people listen to?

A

Sometimes media misrepresent GVI. Media can portray GVI as excessively hard.
Angry damaged and endangered street offenders are not much inclined to listen to police or mayors, but they are willing to listen to mothers, older, wiser, offenders, and community elders.
They will listen to community moral voices

Q

During call-in prep, what should you not do?

A
  1. ID members of violent groups and their active members including those serving jail or prison sentences. 2. Determine community supervision status with the list that LE identified. 3. Include members from each group at call-in – keep gvi members to 40 or less member from each group must be present. If there are too many people, we can hold multiple sessions.

Q

What is the GVI gang model?

A

GVI and Comprehensive gang model both use a combination of LE, community engagement, and service provision in an effort to stem group violence. The CGM employs an array of strategies including broad social intervention, opportunities provision, suppression, community mobilization, and organizational change. GVI relies on small, more easily assembled, and narrowly focused partnerships of LE, community representatives, and social service providers to engage in a specific way with violent groups. P 8

Q

Does listing gangs distract from ID groups?

A

Exclusive focus on gangs will exclude a significant number of groups that contribute to serious violence. Worrying about whether a particularly area has gangs or whether a particular group is a gang is an unnecessary distraction. Some groups will not fit the statutory definition of a gang or the common perception of a gang (may not have a name, symbol, sign, tag, hierarchy, or other identifier) p. 2 YES

Q

When should you do a demonstration? After call-in? Change?

A

In response to specifically prohibited violent acts. Typically, the first demonstration should happen before the first call-in so that during that call in police can point to actions against group members and what they are facing. P 40
