Gutter defects Flashcards
What are the reasons for gutters fail?
- Old gutter - new heavy weather
- Poor maintenance
- Corrosion
- Building movement
- Freeze-thaw
- Initial installation
What are the pros and cons of liquid applied systems?
Pros:
* Seamless
* Installed to full profile
* Works well with intricate shapes
Cons:
* Substrate needs to be clean/dry (weather dependent).
* Cannot be applied over previous systems
* Requires high quality workmanship
* Subject to building stress
What are the pros and cons of bonded membranes?
Pros:
* Seamless
* Installed to full profile
* Can increase capacity
Cons:
* Substrate needs to be clean/dry (weather dependent)
* Cannot be applied over previous systems
* Corners require on-site forming
* Complex outlets (syphonics) ignored
What are the pros and cons of a fold out system?
Pros:
* Components (outlets, corners etc) are factory formed
* The membrane can be extended
Cons:
* Is not seamless (requires bonding sections together)
* Sole boards need to be installed to remove height of bolts, reducing gutter capacity
* Design limited
* Weather dependent install
What are the pros and cons of a loose lay system?
Pros:
* Seamless
* Installed to full profile
* Can increase capacity
* Components (outlets, corners etc) are factory formed
* Less prep work required
* Less weather dependent
Cons:
* Thermal movement considerations required.
* Building movement and lining movement may cause ponding.
