First void urine sample- Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea
(NAAT- nucleic acid amplification test)
HIV and syphilis bloods test
Hep B and C if high risk
What groups are high risk for Hep B?
IVDU
MSM
Sex workers
High risk areas (war zones etc)
What tests would you do on symptomatic patients?
High vaginal swabs
Urethral swabs
Pharyngeal and rectal swabs (depending on exposure)
Urinanalysis
What are primary preventions for GUM?
Education Awareness Free condoms Hep B Vaccination HPV vaccination
What are secondary preventions for GUM?
Targeted screening
Partner notification
Contact tracing
What are tertiary preventions for GUM?
Treat diseases fast to reduce mortality and morbidity
How long is the incubation period of chlamydia and gonorrhoea?
2 weeks
What is the treatment for chlamydia?
7 days Azithromycin
What kind of organism is gonorrhoea?
Gram negative diplococci
What is the treatment for gonorrhoea?
Single dose IM Ceftriaxone
How can syphilis be transmitted?
Horizontally and Vertically
What is the primary presentation of syphilis?
Painless genital sores in days to weeks CHANCRE
What is the secondary presentation of syphilis?
Blotchy Red Rash anywhere, often on palms or soles
Skin Growths (like genital warts)– on the vulva or anus
White patches in mouth
Tiredness, headaches, joint pains, fever
Lyphadenopathy
Patchy hair loss
What is tertiary syphilis?
Meningitis Strokes Dementia Loss of co-ordination Numbness Vision problems or blindness Heart problems
How do you diagnose Syphilis?
