What’s the purpose of guidelines?
- Provide consensus on the scientific evidence
- Raise awareness and knowledge of the health benefits of PA and SB among different groups

- Less exposure to content promoting undesirable behaviour- agression, lonliness, envy/comparison
- Less interference with natural cognitive processes- creatviity ect

why is team sport beneficial?
is associated with better health (e.g., anxiety, depression) than individual activities / sport
what can effective PA and SB messaging do?
- Increase awareness and knowledge of guidelines, achievement (or not) of them, and how to achieve them
- Positively influence attitudes, intentions, confidence and motivation.
- Reduce barriers to being more active and less sedentary
- Positively change PA and SB levels
Effective public health messaging should be
- Positive rather than threat-based
- Focus on short-term benefits (esp. social and mental health)
- Target or tailor content to recipients
- Give practical advice ‘how to’
