what is a call?
Call- God calling people to impart a
message/mission to them.
Vocation
Vocation- a calling from God to do something.
Gospel- the “Good News”.
Decalogue
Decalogue- also the 10 Commandments
Covenant- a binding agreement between 2
parties.
Passover
Passover- Jewish tradition commemorating the
exile from Egypt
Revelation
Revelation- people learn of God through God’s
works.
Sin
Sin- a breach in your relationship with God.
Going against what God wants.
Holy Trinity
God- Father; Jesus- Son; Holy
Spirit- Guide. Guide to give courage to Apostles
to spread Jesus’ message of love and start the
Church.
Apocalyptic Literature
writing that focused on
the end of history. Jesus’ second coming to
judge the living and the dead.
Beatitudes
Beatitudes- given during Jesus’ Sermon on the
Mount.
Eschatological
Eschatological- pertains to the end of time
Exegesis
Exegesis- analysis of texts in its original context
example- uncovering history.
Hermenutics
Hermenutics- analysis of texts to understand
what they mean for us in the 21 st century.
New Testament
New Testament- explains the birth, life, death
and resurrection of Jesus.
Parousia
Parousia- the second coming of Christ at the
end of time.
Torah
Torah- the 5 books of Moses that contain the
core teachings: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Known as
Pentateuch.
