Action: excreted in the urine where it exerts a topical analgesic effect on the urinary tract
Uses: UTI pain
S/E: orange urine
Notes: educate that urine will turn orange
Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX, Bactrim, Septra)
Class: ABX - broad spectrum

Notes: take full dose at the same time each day; increase fluids

Action: lowers DHT hormone, shrinking the prostate gland
Uses: BPH
S/E: ED, breast enlargement
Notes: does not provide immediate relief; 3-6 mo for full effect
Tamsulosin (Flomax)
Class: alpha-blocker
Routes: oral
Action: relaxes muscles in the prostate
Uses: BPH
S/E: retrograde ejaculation
Notes: BPH symptoms should diminish within days to weeks
Tadalafil (Cialis)

Routes: oral
Action: vasodilates and relaxes muscles in bladder and prostate
Uses: BPH, ED
S/E: orthostatic HoTN, dizziness
Notes: do not take with nitrates
Tamoxifen
Class: antiestrogen
Action: binds to estrogen receptors and blocks the multiplying actions of estrogen in the breast
Uses: breast cancer
Cisplatin (Platinol)
Class: chemotherapy
Action: causes DNA damage in cancer cells, blocking cell division and resulting in apoptotic cell death
Uses: breast cancer
Ondansetron (Zofran)
Class: antiemetic
Use: N/V
Cytoxan
Class: chemotherapy
Action: stops/slows cancer cell growth
