GU Flashcards
what is the function of the urinary system
Regulation, Excreation,Transportation Storage and elimination of urine and removes metabolic waste
Male GU system
Vas Deferens, seminal ducts, ureters, bladder, urethra, prostate, kindneys and Adrenals
6 paired male reproductive organs
testes, seminal vesicles, Vas Deferens, cowpers gland, epididymides, ejaculatory ducts
Kidneys and their purpose
Bilateral structures, regulate the volume, composition and PH of body fluids
kidneys are located
Retroperitoneal space in the lower thoracic & upper lumbar area
Blood supply to the kidneys
renal arteries
renal parenchyma
functioning part that filters the blood and produces urine
perirenal fat pad
protects the kidneys and keeps them in their normal anatomical postion, surrounds adrenal glands
fascia renalis (Gerotas fascia/ capsule or renal fascia
layer of connective tissue that encapsulates the kidneys and suprenal glands
Hilum of the Kidney
Medial boarder
structures that eneter and exit the kidney at the hilum
renal arteries, multiple branches of nerevs and lymphatics
renal pedicle
……
renal pelvis
enlarged upper end of the ureter, funnel shapped sac located mostly inside the hilum formed by 2 or 3 tubes called major calyces
Adrenal glands
sit on top of the kidneys, responsible for releasing hormones
ureters
conduct urine from kidneys to bladder 25-30cm long 4-5mm in diameter
