It’s purpose is to identify what an ideal applicant for the post should have in terms of personal qualities, knowledge, qualifications,skills and previous work experience

Sets out the rights and duties of both the employee and the employees
Agreement between two parties and is required by law keeping both the employee and the employer protected at their work

Employ extra workers because the business has grown
Bring in people who have skills they need
Replace employees who have left e.g. retirement, resignation, promotion.

Sets out duties so managers and the employees are clear as to what they will be expected to do
The employer can use it as a focus for setting questions for interview

Helps keep the number of applicants down as only those candidates who meet the essential characteristic needed, will apply for the job, making it less time consuming for the business, saving recruitment costs
Helps select the most suitable candidate meaning the work will be completed more efficiently and the new employee more effective at their work

It is a cheaper method of advertising posts than more traditional methods,such as local and national newspapers
Allows for 2 way communication between the applicant and the organisation
Business has access to a wider pool of candidates since the internet is a global application
Disadvantages of social media in the recruitment process ( 3 points )
Negative comments can be made on social media
Some applicants may not have access to the internet and so will not be aware of the vacant post
Dealing within online queries from applicants can be very time - consuming
Advantages of internal recruitment ( 3 points )
Improves staff morale and provides motivation
Process should be quicker than external recruitment ( less applicants to process )
Cheaper than advertising externally
