neurocognitive disorder
Acquired disorders marked by cognitive deficits. Results in erosion of mental abilities that are not typical normal aging
Alzheimer’s disease
Marked by neural plaques, leads to a progressive decline in memory & other cognitive abilities
What happens to our telomeres as we age?
Telomere length shortens with age.
Older Adult
(65+), Score lower on tests of reasoning, spatial ability, and complex problem-solving, Longer to retrieve words, names, dates, etc., Processing speed slows
Middle years or Adulthood
(35 – 65), Prime of Life, Menopause, and the Climacteric
Emerging Adulthood
(18 – 25)
Authoritative parents
confronting, They are demanding and responsive. They exert control by setting rules but, especially with older children, encourage open discussion and allow exceptions.
Negligent parents
uninvolved; they are neither demanding nor responsive. These careless and inattentive parents do not seek a close relationship with their children
Permissive parents
unrestraining, They make few demands, set few limits, and use little punishment.
Authoritarian parents
coercive, They impose rules and expect obedience.
Difficult Temperament
Irritable, intense, and unpredictable
Easy Temperament
Cheerful, relaxed, and feeding and sleeping on predictable schedules
Disorganized/Disoriented attachment
5-10% of North American infants, Pattern of greatest insecurity
Anxious/Ambivalent (Resistant) attachment
10-15% of North American infants, Seeks closeness to parents and fails to explore before separation
Avoidant attachment
20% of North American infants, Engage in exploration with minimal affect
