Aim
to see to what extent antisocial behavior is caused by genetics.
Methods
-32 sets of identical twins were studied.
-these twins had been separated shortly after birth and were adopted into different families.
-four types of behavior were studied using diagnostic tests:
. alcohol-related problems
. drug-related problems
. childhood and antisocial behavior
. adult antisocial behavior
Results
-from the data, the researchers calculated the heritability of antisocial behavior in children was 41% and in adults was 28%.
Conclusions
-genetics and environment are contributing factors toward antisocial behavior.
-as we get older, the environment might be more of a factor and the influence of genes reduced.
