5
Q

does BP increase/ decrease down Group 7

A

Increases:
- size of the atoms get bigger down the group so there are more stronger van der Waals forces of attraction, so requires more energy to break

physical state changes from Gas->solid down the group

6
Q

Does electronegativity increase or decrease down group 7

A

Decrease:
- Atoms get larger down the group, so distance between outer electron and nucleus increases, so weaker electrostatic forces of attraction between them

  • also there is increased shielding

8
Q

does reactivity increase or decrease down group 7

A

for reactions to occur an atom needs to be able to gain an electron ( 1- ions)

It is harder to do this as we go down the group due to an increase in the size of atoms, therefore reactivity decreases

Q

are Halogens less oxidising or more oxidising down the group

A

LESS oxidising down the group

-show this by reacting halogens with halide ions
