Q

Why does mpt increase going down?

A

Atoms (+ molecules) increase in size, resulting in more IMFs. Takes more energy to break, higher mpt

Q

Why does reactivity decrease going down?

A

As we go down the group, the period number increases, meaning we have more energy levels, or shells. So the nucleus is closer to electrons being attracted during bonding at the top, but at the bottom its farther away. Stronger electrostatic forces.
