Etomidate Class
Non-Barbiturate Hypnotic
Anestesia inducing agent
Etomidate MOA
Ultra-short acting hypnotic that produces rapid sedation with minimal respiratory and cardiovascular depression.
Etomidate Indication
- Pre-paralytic sedation for medication facilitated sedation.
Etomidate Adult Dose and Route
- Procedural Sedation
- 0.2-0.4 mg/kg IV/IO over 30-60 secs. (Typical adult dose is 20mg)
Etomidate Onset of Action
30-60 secs
Etomidate Peak Effect
1 min.
Etomidate Duration of Action
5-10 min.

Ketamine Adult Dose and Route (all doses are for patients 15 yrs and older)
Procedural Sedation
- 2mg/kg IV/IO over 1-2 min.

- Moderate Pain: 0.5 mg/kg IN (max single dose 50mg; max total dose 100mg)
- Severe Pain: 0.25 mg/kg IV/IO/IM (max single dose 25mg; max total dose 100 mg)
