Group 1 Flashcards
Classification of computer types:
●Analogue Computers
●Digital Computers
●Hybrid Computers
A computer which processes continuous data using physical quantities.
It processes and represents data using continuous signals such as pressure, temperature, voltage, speed, weight, or physical dimensions.
Analogue Computers
This data is not discrete; it is continuous
Analogue data
Types of Analogue Computer:
●Mechanical Analog Computer
●Electrical Analog Computer
●Optical Analog Computer
●Analog-hybrid Computer
A device that uses mechanical components like gears and levers
Mechanical Analog Computer
A computing device that uses continuously variable physical quantities, such as electrical voltages or mechanical movements
Electrical Analog Computer
It is also called a photonic computer.
It is a device that uses the photons in visible light or infrared (IR)
Optical Analog Computer
Computers that exhibit features of Analog computers and digital computer.
Analog-hybrid hybrid computer
Computers that use discrete data to perform computations. It is also the most common type of computers used today
Digital Computer
Types of Digital Computers:
●Microcomputer
●Minicomputer
●Mainframe computers
●Supercomputer
It is known as “personal computer”.
It is a small, relatively inexpensive computer with a single microprocessor as its CPU.
The cheapest among the other types of computers.
Microcomputer
It is a smaller and cheaper than a mainframe or supercomputer, but it is more larger and expensive than microcomputers.
It is a medium size multiprocessing computer.
Minicomputer
Known as “Big Iron”.
They are usually used by big organizations for bulk or large data processing such as statics, census data processing, and transaction processing.
Mainframe computer
Characteristic of Mainframe computer
Performance is measured in Millions of Instructions per second
(MIPS)
Is the highest-performing system compared to other types of computers.
Supercomputers
