Group 0 Noble Gases Flashcards
What are group 0 elements called?
Called the Noble gases:
Helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon
What are properties of noble gases?
Colourless gases at room temperature
Non flammable
Hard to observe
Why are the properties of these elements how they are?
As they are monatomic meaning they are a single atom
They don’t react with much at all , they all have full outer shells, this means that they don’t give or gain electrons.
How are noble gases used in everyday life?
Provide inert atmosphere
Argon is used in filament lamps
Flash photography uses argon krypton and xenon.
Helium is used in airships and balloons , lower density then air , non flammable safer .
Where are there patterns in the properties of the noble gases?
The boiling melting and density increase as you go down group 0
Eg find a density of a element in between two others,
