Where do muscles attach?

A

At their origin and insertion.

Origins are generally immovable, so like the anchor, where the muscle originates, generally medial and proximal. Insertions tend to be distal and lateral.

What are aponeurosis?

A

Tendon like sheath, that gives stability.

Tendon collagen runs unilaterally, aponeurosis collagen runs in different directions.

What are functions of tendons?

A
  • Attach muscle to bone
  • Allow muscle bulk to be situated away from its site of action
  • Can withstand compression
  • Allow muscles to pull ‘round corners’
  • reserve energy/resist heat
