Gross Motor Skills Flashcards
Newborn-1 month, Prone:
Physiologic Flexion; Lifts Head Briefly; Head to side
Newborn-1 month, Supine
Physiologic Flexion; Rolls part way to side
Newborn-1 month, Sitting
Head lag with pull to sit
Newborn-1 month, Standing
Reflexive standing and walking
2-3 months, Prone
Lifts head to 90 degrees briefly; chest up in prone with some weight through forearms; rolls prone to supine
2-3 months, Supine
ATNR with strong influence on movement; Reciprocal Kicking; Prefers head to side (asymmetry)
2-3 months, Sitting
Variable head lag in pull to sit; Needs full support to sit; Head upright, but bobbing
2-3 months, Standing
Poor weight bearing; Hips in flexion, behind shoulders
4-5 months, prone
Bears weight on extended arms; pivots in prone to reach toys
4-5 months, supine
Rolls from supine to side; Plays with feet to mouth
4-5 months, sitting
head steady in supported sitting; turns head in sitting; sits alone briefly
4-5 months, standing
Bears all weight through legs when supported
6-7 months, prone
Rolls from supine to prone; holds weight on one hand to reach for toy (weight shift)
6-7 months, supine
Lifts Head (anti-gravity neck flexion)
6-7 months, sitting
Lifts head and helps when pulled to sit; Gets to sitting independently; Sits independently
6-7 months standing
Stands holding on when placed; bounces in standing
6 -7 months, mobility
May crawl backward
8-9 months, prone
Gets to quadruped
8-9 months, supine
Transitional
8-9 months, sitting
Moves from sitting to prone; sits without hand support for longer periods; pivots in sitting
8-9 months, standing
Stands at furniture; pulls to stand at furniture; lowers to sitting from supported stand
8-9 months, mobility
Creeps forward; cruises
10-11, standing
stands without support briefly; pulls to stand through half-kneeling; picks object up from floor from standing with support
10-11 mobility
Walks with both hands held; walks with one hand held; creeps on hands and knees (plantigrade creep/bear walk)
12-15 mobility
Walks without support; fast walking; walks backward; walks sideways; bends over to look between legs; creeps or hitches up stairs; throws ball in sitting
Newborn - 1 month fine motor
Acknowledges objects within direct vision; follows moving object to midline; hands fisted (cortical thumb); jerky arm movements; movements may be purposeful or random
2-3 months fine motor
Can see further distances; hands open more; visual tracking 180 degrees; reflexive grasp (palmar grasp)
4-5 month fine motor
Grasps and releases toys; uses ulnar-palmar grasp
6-7 month fine motor
Approaches objects with one hand; arm in neutral when approaching toy; radial-palmar grasp; “raking” to pick up objects; voluntary release to transfer objects between hands
8-9 month fine motor
Develops active supination; Radial-Digital grasp develops; uses inferior pincer grasp; extends wrist actively; point and poke with index finger; refined release of objects; takes objects out of a container
10-11 month fine motor
Fine pincer grasp developed; puts objects in to a container; grasps crayon adaptively
12-15 month fine motor
Marks paper with crayon; builds tower with two cubes; turns over small container to obtain contents
