Gross Anatomy Flashcards
Parts of the Brainstem
Thalamus, Midbrain, Pons, Medulla Oblongata
Function of brainstem
Basic needs including sleep, breathing and autonomic actions
Four lobes of the brain and functions
Occipital: contains primary visual processes
Parietal: contains somatosensory cortex- termination of pathways carrying modalities of touch, pressure, pain and temperature from the opposite half of the body
Frontal: contains primary motor cortex- controls movement
Temporal: Recognition of objects and human faces
Function of central sulcus
Divides the anterior frontal lobe from the more posterior parietal lobe
Lateral sulcus
separates the frontal lobe from the temporal lobe
parieto-occipital sulcus
separates the parietal lobe from the occipital lobe
Motor Functions of cerebellum
Helps to control balance and equilibrium
Influences muscle tone and makes postural adjustments
Helps to coordinate movement sequences during skilled activity
Cerebellum basic structure
Anterior and posterior lobe which are separated by the primary fissure
