Grooming, bandaging and travel Flashcards
Stable Bandage
Covers:
A stable bandage will cover from just below the fetlock to just below the knee/hock. Both Gamgee and bandage are used.
Use/Purpose:
Can protect legs when travelling and can also be used if the horse is injured as it can cover injuries while also preventing bacteria reaching a wound which could cause an infection.
Exercise Bandage
Covers:
An exercise bandage will cover from just above the fetlock to just below the knee/hock. Both Gamgee and bandage are used.
Use/Purpose:
Used when exercising a horse, as this bandage offers support for the tendons and can prevent bruising and brushing when exercising.
Tail Bandage
Covers:
The dock of the tail.
Use/Purpose:
When travelling, horses can rub their tail on the trailer which can cause damage to the tail. A tail bandage prevents any damage being caused to the tail while travelling. Some people may also use a tail bandage when riding or clipping their horse.
