Grinding Flashcards
What common wears are there?
Attritious wear (the grits get flat) Grit fracture, they break Bond fracture, they get loosened
What is the force ratios dependant on?
Wheel sharpness
Grinding fluid
Grinding aggressiveness
what are the functions of the bonds
Retain abrasive grain during the process.
Wear at a controlled rate with respect to grain wear
Resist centrifugal forces especially in highspeed grindingR
Readily expose the grain to the work where possible.
What is the most important aspect of surface intregrity for grinding?
Thermal damage, affects the quality and limits the production rate
What types of thermal damage can occur?
Thermal softening:occurws att 560C, causes the ground surface to soften.
Residual tensile stresses: WHen thermal expansion gives high stress, can cause cracking close to the surface
Rehardening burn, at austentizing temp(1125C) causes a brittle layer that may ,lead to cracking.
