Why use grid references instead of area references?
A
Area references are limited because they indicate areas that are still rather large
For more precise locations we use grid references

Grid Reference
A
- six digits long
- points to a very small area on a map
- still contains an easting and northing
- divided into tenths

How to create a grid reference
A
- look at eastings divide the length into tenths in your head and count the number of tenths until lined up
- look at northing and do the same (counting up)

FIRST 3 digits of a grid reference
