Greenhouse Effect, Seasons, & Moon Phases Flashcards
Explain how the sun heats the earth
The sunlight (nuclear gasses) hit the earth and reflects off the earth as inferred. Then it hits the greenhouse gasses transforming into thermal energy.
What’s the difference between climate change and global warming?
Climate is precipitation (rain), and hurricanes/tornados
Global warming is just temperature
What percent of scientist believe that the earth has warmed up the past 100 years?
~100%
What percent of scientist think that the earth has warmed up because of human caused increase in CO2?
~98
What is global warming?
Average increase in Earth’s temperature
How much forest fires, droughts, hurricanes intensity is due to global warming?
~50%
How much has the earth warmed up in the last 100 years?
~1.4C
What is causing global warming?
- Burning fossil fuels
- Increase in CO2
When is it summer?
When the earth is tilting towards the sun
When is it winter?
When the earth is tilting away from the sun
Why is summer warmer than winter, and why are the days longer?
Summer is warmer because the earth is tilted towards the sun and the days are longer because the sun is shining more directly on the Norther Hemisphere
what degrees does the Earth’s axis tilt?
23.5
