Green International Business Flashcards
What is green economy? In practice, what challenges facing nations in pursuing green economy? What role can MNCs play in green economy?
A green economy is an economy that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
Challenges facing nations in pursuing a green economy:
- Climate change
- Environmental degradation
- War
- Pollution
- Waste
MNCs can play a huge role in green economy by acknowledging environmental protection. Through CSR they can act as good global citizens and contribute to a better environment.
In your opinion, why is green economy called an arm-wrestling match?
In my opinion a green economy is called an arm-wrestling match because it deals with a fixed trade off between ecology and the economy. On one hand a green economy creates social benefits but on the other hand this comes at a high cost resulting in reduced competitiveness.
If you were the CEO of an MNC, which environmental approach would you take to reduce the impacts of corporate activities on environment, idealism or pragmatism approach? Why?
If I was the CEO of a MNC I would use the pragmatism approach to reduce the impacts of corporate activities on environment because this approach is corporate proactive. By taking my own actions this is not anti-capitalistic, which the idealism approach is. This way, it is possible to aim at creating a link between profit making and environmental protection.
As an “earthling”, what 5 things would you like to pursue to be more environment friendly?
- Recycling
- Solar power
- Electric cars
- Use public transport
- Composting
