2
Q

steam reforming equation

A

CH4(g) + H2O(g) = CO(g) + 3H2(g), carbon monoxide is then converted into CO2

3
Q

colour of the hydrogen produced from steam reforming

A

brown as the release of CO2 as a by product is detrimental to the environment

Q

advantages of hydrogen

A

high energy density, abundant in earth (present in water and most carbon compounds), the sole product of its combustion is water

Q

disadvantages of hydrogen

A

not found as an element, so energy is needed to produce it, very low boiling point so requires signficant energy to liquidify it or high pressures are required if hydrogen is stored as a gas, its explosive so requires careful handing and storage, it is difficult to transport safely

6
Q

what does the colour scheme of hydrogen used to describe

A

each colour is representative of a rating of the relative environmental impacts of producing the H2
