What two themes are brought about through Shell’s journey to visit his father in Port of Spain?

A

The themes of maturity and father-son relationship are brought about through Shell’s journey to visit his father in Port of Spain. The theme of maturity was evident since he traveled by himself, even though he wasn’t familiar with the area. Maturity also unfolded when Shell went to the Colonial Hospital by taxi and pretended to be composed when he told the driver ‘Colonial Hospital’. The theme father-son relationship was evident as Shell neared Port of Spain. He began to think of his father even more and became even more excited to see him. Even though he didn’t have a father figure due to his father’s illness, he still had a close relationship with him, and he still loved him.
