Describe The Lenaea

A

A festival held in late January, only for Athenians, as it was too early for travellers. Drama competitions were held, but it focused on comedies.

A

A festival held mid-winter, it was the local version of City Dionysia, held in the towns and villages of Attica (Demes).

A

A festival held in honour of Dionysus in late March, to celebrate the coming of spring and new trade.

A

The judges were selected in a randomised system that drew a name from each of the 10 Athenian tribes.

The 10 judges would rank their favourite plays then put it in a jar. 5/10 were drawn, and the playwright with the highest votes would win.
