rule of porportion for buildings and human figures written.
Polykleitos- sculptor
Doryphoros- the title of work sculpted to exemplify the canon
contrapposto
position where one part is turned in opposition (a weight shift)
exomis
a greek tunic
pteron/peripteral/dipteral
greek temple styles (peristyle is a continuous porch formed by collumns)
pteron- a peristyle raised on a podium
peripteral- a single layers of collumns on all sides
dipteral- a double peristyle
naos
temple or shrine
altar
a block/ podium for religious purposes such as offerings, prayers, etc.
triglyph and metope frieze
frieze- a block right under the pediment (triangle)
triglyph- a support block (replaces just a simple frieze and metope is paired with it)
metope- a block with sculpture
Ionic frieze
more solid and universal with possible moldings
treasury
made to house offerings and dedications (Athenian Treasury of Delphi)
caryatid
a female figure that functions as a supporting collumn
perikles (Periklean Building Program)
a project brought about by Perikles in order to
